Things are heating up in Central Texas and it’s time to start heating up those grills! Memorial Day marks the unofficial beginning of the summer season, which means backyard BBQs, yard games, and a three-day weekend! With these get-togethers on the horizon, we’ve compiled a list of four fun for the whole family games and some food ideas to make this Memorial Day stress-free and enjoyable.
Although this year’s holiday might feel a bit different amidst the COVID-19 crisis, these games are here to entertain your friends and family all while staying at a safe social distance. Cornhole, also known as bean bag toss is fun for kids and adults alike. You can make your own with plywood or can purchase a kid-friendly version. Horseshoes is another classic outdoor game and can be played with the whole family as can bocce ball and ladder golf. All these games can be played with up to four people, kids, and adults.
For your Memorial Day backyard BBQ, we’ve come up with some easy ideas for meals and desserts to accommodate your party. To minimize stress on the host, ask your guests to bring a side, they’ll like contributing and you won’t have to worry about the entire menu. Here are some classic and tasty sides to bring, watermelon, fruit salad, coleslaw, potato salad; just to name a few.
For the main course you can never go wrong with hotdogs, hamburgers, grilled corn on the cobb, grilled chicken wings, and pulled pork sandwiches. Switch up desserts for the kids! S’mores over an open fire are a family favorite.
We here at Bar W Ranch wish everyone a safe holiday weekend and hope these tips and ideas come in handy. We also want to thank all the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
